Barcelona have made headlines for signing a player and then cancelling his contract a few hours later after discovering offensive tweets that he posted about the club on social media.

Sergi Guardiola (no relation to Barca legend Pep) had signed for the B team after a successful trial but his move fell apart after fans did a little bit of digging into his past and discovered anti-Catalonia tweets.

The 24-year-old midfielder has had a storied career and most recently played for Alcorcon in the Spanish lower leagues but had his contract terminated by mutual consent after limited playing time.

This termination was all Barcelona. Read their statement below.

"FC Barcelona announced that it has decided to terminate the contract it had signed with the player Sergi Guardiola, who had also been incorporated into Barca B, after checking that he had posted offensive tweets against Barca and Catalonia."

This isn’t the first instance of a player having his past come back to haunt him. In July Deportivo against signing youth team player Julio Rey at the last minute after discovering disparaging tweets he made about the club.
