With modern sports journalism providing wall-to-wall 24-hour coverage, it was no surprise to see that the coverage of Jose Mourinho’s sacking was draped in drama and intrigue.

As soon as the news was announced, the paparazzi sped down to the Chelsea training ground in eager anticipation of Mourinho’s final departure from Cobham, and they remained camped there in order to snap the players leaving too.

But Sky really took their coverage to a new level, sending a helicopter over to West London so as not to miss the moment Mourinho left the club. But even the helicopter failed, as the man they believed to be Mourinho, wasn’t him at all.
